New Roadside site in Battersea
Wandsworth Council have opened a new roadside monitoring site in the Nine Elms area of Battersea which measures nitrogen dioxide and PM10 particulate.
The area around the Battersea Power station is undergoing extensive redevelopment, with the construction of a large number of residential and commercial premises and further, large-scale plans including improved infrastructure (extension of the Northern Line) and new retail services.
The new monitoring site has been installed due to concerns about increased pollution levels as a result of these redevelopments and in an area where diffusion tube and modelling have already indicated elevated nitrogen dioxide and PM10 particulate levels. The site will give an indication of current residential population exposure alongside the A3205 - Battersea Park Road, as well as an approximation of the kind of pollution levels likely to be experienced by new residents and people using the new facilities as they progress. The site will also add to the spatial coverage of the London Air quality Network in an area that has not previously undergone automatic high time resolution air quality measurements.
